While market exchange rates calculate how much foreign currency can you buy with your home currency. Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) calculates how much you should earn in a foreign country (in the foreign currency) in order to buy the same things you do in your own country. The big mac index attempts to calculate the same but it is inaccurate compared to (the more comprehensive) Purchasing Power Parity method. The PPP conversion factors for this calculator are sourced from the World Bank database, these factors are updated every year.
